Our parish comes together to support food pantries in the Madison area, making sure that our brothers and sisters in need not only have enough food to eat, but also have the personal care items for themselves and their families. Please see some ways we do this below.
Food Pantry Gardens
Our parish partners with the Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens to help provide local food pantries with fresh, nutritious and culturally relevant vegetables. There are 10 gardens total that have grown and donated more than 2 million pounds of produce to the Dane County emergency food system.
The vegetables harvested from the Lacy Garden go to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and the produce from the Emmett Schulte Garden, is delivered to the Catholic Multicultural Center, where it is distributed through their food pantry or included in their meal program.
Gleaning
Our parish collects produce at the downtown Farmer's Market to disburse to food pantries and shelters in the area. We rotate weekends with other churches in the community.
Big Truck Weekends
Our Big Truck Weekends happens twice a year, supporting St. Vincent de Paul stores and food pantry.
Bags with ‘wish lists’ are handed out after Masses in anticipation of the arrival of a Big Truck Weekend. When the truck arrives, the bags return filled with donations of food, personal care items, gently used clothing and small household goods to support people in need.
