the United States, Europe and Japan promoting a positive image of youth and the
value of music in our lives. Specifically, the outreach program has four goals:• To encourage music education in the schools of our nation and the world.
• To train young people in performance.
• To share insight into and understanding of different cultures through music.
• To strengthen character and help our students develop self-esteem, self-worth and
self-discipline.The Young Americans, who come from all over the United States, work together to nurture & share their passion for music, performance and teaching. With a group this size, they are able to provide personal, individualized attention and instruction while serving as inspirational role models for our students. In three short days, students will participate in voice, dance, improvisation, theater production and sound technique classes and they will go on to perform an hour-long show. Please note: This workshop is considered the school curriculum for these three days. Students are expected to participate in full. While slightly unusual, this experience will begin on a Sunday (September 22nd) and the students will be required to check in at 2:00 p.m. that day. The full workshop schedule is as follows:Sunday, September 22nd: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Monday, September 23rd: 8:10 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday, September 24th: Regular school hours.
Report at 6:00 p.m. for 6:30 p.m. performanceThis program is designed for students in grades 4-12. The days are long, but full of fun, positive energy, tremendous music education and confidence-building opportunities for all students. You will be amazed at what your children learn in such a short period of time!School & Family is generously funding this Artist In Residence program for your child(ren). The cost to families is minimal: Students will need to purchase or rent a Young Americans t-shirt as their performance attire for $10 (if rented, money will be refunded). Parents will also be required to purchase tickets for the final performance. As the date gets closer, we will be letting you know of several ways you can help make the visit successful. We ask that you consider one vital volunteer need for this residency: Host schools are asked to provide ‘home stays’ for the Young Americans during their visit. Willing families agree to host two (or more) performers for the duration of the residency. In years past, participating families have said that this was a great experience that helped their student(s) build valuable relationships with our YA guests. The Young Americans will need a ‘home’ on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. Host families need to provide a comfortable place to sleep & shower, breakfast and dinner, and rides to and from QP. The most important element to a successful home stay is a welcoming spirit. We strongly urge you to consider this unique volunteer opportunity! As you can see, we are already busy planning another great school year at QP. We are confident that the Young Americans Music Workshop will provide a wonderful start to the 2013-14 school year!Sincerely,Mark Quinn
